ATTENTION
(updated Feb 8, 2010)
The Special Meeting has been postponed. We will announce the new date soon!
(updated Feb 6, 2010)
As the snow storm continues, we have noticed pine tree branches snapping. Please be make sure to look up and be careful while making your way around the neighborhood. Also please alert your kids that are playing outside of this danger.
If you choose to dig your car out, please deposit the snow into the common areas or the outer perimeter of the neighborhood. If snow is placed in the road, the plows will have a harder time making it through. If snow is placed in an empty space, the plow will most likely not be able to plow this space and we will lose valuable parking spots which will become a problem as people start to leave and arrive back.
At this point (Saturday afternoon), please do not try to leave the neighborhood. We have noticed cars trying to get out and getting stuck. If we have cars stuck in the road, the plows will not be able to do their jobs. The roads are terrible everywhere.
Thanks and be safe!
SNOW REMOVAL (updated Feb 5, 2010)
Please note the following letter from Professional Grounds for this weekend:
The storm is here and won’t be over until tomorrow night but just wanted to mention a few things:
-The last storm residents kept throwing snow back into the roads after each plow. When you have this much snow all that can be done is to push it left or right and continue forward. One foot of snow moved 4 feet makes 4 feet of snow. Urge them to wait to dig out their car/driveway until the end. If they do dig out earlier put the snow to the sides.
-This storm will be more challenging and may take longer to plow than the last Blizzard. The snow is forecast to be extremely heavy and wet which takes significantly longer to plow and is much harder to plow. It is also very hard on all equipment and I’m sure we will lose some pieces. We have backups but it takes time to swap equipment.
-Very heavy snow is anticipated overnight. We could get 3-4” per hour for 4 or more hours including thundersnow! This is an incredible snow rate. If this happens, white out conditions will exist so we may not be able to drive and could be stuck in place. Also, sidewalk crews may have to be pulled. If we can’t work we will be delayed and when we can work it will take longer because 12-16” of heavy, wet snow fell in four hours! During the last blizzard even the biggest snow emergency route, I95, was shut down by VDOT for a couple hours. If we can’t travel places delays will occur.
-Finally, when we plow during the day many residents come up to us asking us to plow out their car or plow their driveway or dig out this or that. Let them know it’s not that we don’t want to help, we can’t, we have to do the job our customers hired us to do. Sometimes they have such desperation on their faces but we have to keep going.
Please know that we are all working as hard as we can around the clock throughout this storm, We will do the best job we can given whatever conditions are thrown at us. Again, the goal is to have everything cleaned up by Monday’s commute. We will continue to update folks and if you need anything e-mail us or contact your point of contact at Professional Grounds, Inc. Next e-mails will be shorter I promise!
We appreciate everyone’s patience and everyone may as well enjoy this historic snow!
Enjoy the snow!
Your Friends at Professional Grounds, Inc.
Also please note we are reserving visitor spaces to help prepare for the the snow cleanup process. Please do not park in these spots, they will be marked by cones. Thank you!
